Vourkoti - Ag.Nicolaos Monastery - Achla Beach
- Time: 5 hrs
- Distance: 11 km
- Persons: min 4 - max 12
- Price: 35€ p.p.
Starting at Vourkoti village, an authentic rural village with the highest altitude in the Cyclades (620m), the path follows a slope that borders the north side of the long, narrow Achla valley. It then descends to a deep river, crossing it over an old stone footbridge, near St. Nicolaos Monastery where we will stop to pay this historical monastery a visit. The walk continues in a north easterly direction, above the verdant Achla valley, officially nominated as a protected area of natural beauty. The footpath closely follows the river, which is bordered by plane trees, almost the whole way. Achla bay at the end of the route is a beautiful unspoiled beach with dunes and caves, where the river estuary forms a small lagoon that welcomes both migrant and resident birds. A zone of absolute protection! ! Rest and swim.
If the weather permits we return to Chora on a little boat , or by jeep car, or hiking back again this time up to St.Nicolaos Monastery..
